Vintage is a word – Frursday is less so

Published by Celestyna Brozek under Accessories, Reuse/Recycle

So I say Frursday, because technically it’s supposed to be Friday, but I’m always so excited that I jump the gun and post Thursday.  Ah, well, guess I should be happy about beating the deadline!

Okay, to be honest, I’m a fairly recent covert to vintage. But I know what’s happening. When I started studying fashion design, I learned how to recognize quality in a garment, and it’s hard to go back! But new, exquisitely finished clothes don’t exactly come cheap – nor should they – a lot of work goes into them.

And I became inundated with trends and style and what’s in and what’s out and got a little burned out on the sheer quantity of it all! Everything in stores started to look the same. I started to resent how quickly trends come and go, and how many of them there are! Vintage saved me on all counts. And it also challenges me, which I love. It’s true that working a vintage piece, especially a semi-out-there one, into a cohesive look is not an easy task. I love how outrageous some of the pieces are, and how timeless others can be.

Sometimes, the best way to ease into vintage is with accessories. After shoes, my favorite accessory is a belt. It is unparallelled for tying a look together or for tweaking a silhouette. So today we explore belts.  I cannot be held responsible for my animal belt mania, so I apologize if a disproportionate amount of the featured belts confirm this propensity.
