Salvaged Style

Published by Vanessa Brunner under Reuse/Recycle

A typical Cinderella story doesn’t usually involve a ballgown made of discarded candy wrappers…

Unless your fairy godmother is designer Gary Harvey.

I happened upon these designs while purusing the world of recycled fashion, and I had to put them on the blog.

They took my breath away. It’s a take on “trashion” that I haven’t seen yet. Clothes that retain a classic, couture shape, but still celebrate the materials they’re made out of.

While it may not be a typical look, and something that may take quite some time for people to get used to, I think it’s a great step towards recycled fashion becoming part of the public consciousness. I’d love to see things get to the point where recycled clothes and accessories are bought and enjoyed, without trying to be part of “mainstream” fashion.
