Unique Solar Ideas |

Branches of the solar tree are decorated with solar lamps, each one comprising of several solar cells; they also have rechargeable batteries and electronic systems. Sharp Solar and Artemide joined forces to turn the design into reality.
Most of Sharp’s modules are used for solar energy systems on roofs, but the company believes that solar cells could soon be used in all areas of everyday life from clothes to satellites – including Christmas trees.
With respect to lighting, every solar lighting fixture constitutes a highly complex, scientifically designed solar collector panel, which can light your outdoors without any use of electricity. Since they do not require transformers or wirings, they can be great for driveways, gardens and those remote locations.
Apart from the solar energy used in the industrial sectors with the aid of technology, every household can make the optimum use of solar energy, using either photovoltaic for electricity and/or solar thermal for heat.
Moreover, the sun being a long term clean source of energy, its extensive utilization will reduce the usage of coal, oil and gas, making environmental protection easier.

Ross Lovegrove, who designed the tree, said that the “Solar Tree represents the DNA of our time and it also shows it is possible to create beautiful things using the most advanced technology”.
The solar tree showed up first in Oct. 2007 in Vienna, and then arrived in Italy in November and was located at Piazza della Scala, one of the more prestigious squares in the heart of Milan.
Lovegrove recently has revealed that there is a second generation Solar Tree coming out called the “Adaptive Solar Tree,” it will be fully automated and have robotic features. It will follow the sun like a sunflower and in strong winds the branches will come together. He also hopes to integrate an air purification system, allowing the solar tree to clean the air around it, much like a real tree.
