Thousands To Get Barenaked For Cruises Sponsored By Cali Bamboo
Leading bamboo producer teams with Grammy-honored John Mayer, Barenaked Ladies, Guster, Sixthman and Reverb for environmental education and rock cruises
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Cali Bamboo, the company committed to saving the planet one customer at a time, is co-sponsoring the Barenaked Ladies’ Ships & Dip III and Mayercraft Carrier music cruises with Reverb. The two cruises, which are produced by Sixthman, will be sailing to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas with 6,000 music fans, and Cali Bamboo will be there to spread the message of environmental awareness. For Cali Bamboo’s founders, Goldberg and Haigwood, the trip is a natural progression to keep their environmental efforts apace with the success of their business.
Cali Bamboo’s increased effort launched – literally – on January 27th from Miami aboard the Carnival Victory bound for Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Ships & Dip III, the name of the cruise itself, includes concerts by Barenaked Ladies, Guster, The New Odds, Jason Plumb, Gaelic Storm and many others.
By partnering with Sixthman and Reverb, Cali Bamboo will help offset the carbon emissions of the cruise and educate all aboard - and beyond. Cruisers can go from the Cali Bamboo Flip Cup Tourney with Guster to viewings and discussions of “The 11th Hour” and “Everything’s Cool.” Meanwhile, Cali Bamboo, Stonyfield Farm and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters will help educate cruisers about how simple and painless alterations in their lifestyle can keep them dancing through life - while minimizing their “footprint” on earth.
“I am proud to be partnering with Cali Bamboo and Reverb on these cruises,” said Andy Levine, Founder and CEO, Sixthman. “Last year, Reverb did an outstanding job greening the Ships & Dip cruise and with Cali Bamboo’s participation, we are sure to increase the carbon offsets of the cruises and create greater environmental awareness and support.”
The Barenaked Ladies cruise is followed by a second cruise, also to be greened by Reverb and sponsored in part by Cali Bamboo, departing Miami on Feb. 1 and returning from Freeport, Bahamas Feb. 4. This Carnival trip, Mayercraft Carrier, features John Mayer and the filming of *VH1*’s Best Week Ever.
Cali Bamboo’s newly formed partnership with Sixthman and Reverb is a natural given the roots of the company. When Goldberg and Haigwood launched Cali Bamboo in 2004, they were not looking merely for a way to become successful business owners; their goal was also to run a business that would be environmentally friendly, a business with a mission of - as their adopted slogan goes — “Saving the planet one customer at a time.”
Since Cali Bamboo’s birth, the company has seen consistent growth in demand for its products, including fencing, flooring, plywood, thatch, rugs and wall and ceiling coverings. The demand has come from both coasts and the country’s heartland. Last year, sales nearly doubled.
Cali Bamboo has already contributed substantially through 1% for the Planet to such groups as the Surfrider Foundation, Surfrider Foundation’s San Diego Chapter, San Diego Coastkeepers, Amazon Watch and Rainforest Relief. Now, as 2008 gets underway, they continue to give back through partnering with Reverb and will continue their education campaign through this season’s Real World, the mega-successful reality program seen on MTV.
With other competitors sprouting up, Goldberg and Haigwood are certainly keeping their eye on continuing growth. As they continue to build the business, though, they have kept their commitment to the environment. And now by joining environmental heavyweights as Ben & Jerry’s, Stoneyfield, Simple and Reverb - Cali Bamboo becomes THE environmental name in building materials.
“We’d never be able to say with a straight face that we weren’t in this to run a successful business,” Goldberg said. “But we’d never be able to get our hearts into the business if we didn’t know we were doing something better with our lives than just trying to turn a buck. If nothing else, we hope increasing our commitment to the environment will increase the success in that part of our plan - to give something back.”
